EA has banned ‘hundreds’ of Bf 3 cheaters

    November 14th, 2011

Publisher EA has revealed that “hundreds” of players have been banned from playing Battlefield 3 due to cheating.“This week we’ve banned hundreds of offending accounts and have stats-wiped accounts for exploiting (such as boosting)…” a tweet from DICE. EA says it has a “zero tolerance policy” on the issue. The publisher is also planning a patch to remove a number of exploits that gamers have discovered. Another tweet: “To report players cheating or boosting send us a direct message to this Twitter with a screen shot of the Battle Log Report.” So if you think there is a particular issue with the game, some imbalance with a particular item or weapon, let DICE know, they are listening—and watching. Beware cheaters, EA and DICE are looking for you.

EA Defends Cop Killing in Battlefield 3

    October 13th, 2011

EA has issued a statement in regards to an objective in Battlefield 3 that requires players to shoot police.

Last week the ESRB rated EA’s upcoming shooter Battlefield 3 with an unsurprising “Mature” rating. The board noted realistic gunfire, splashes of blood, stabbing soldiers to death with knives, and even a sequence where a restrained character’s throat is slit off-screen as a cause for the rating. No real big surprise, honestly.

But then the ESRB also revealed a mission objective to be completed that now has EA explaining itself: shooting police officers. This revelation actually conflicts with comments made by the game’s producer Patrick Back earlier this year who said the experience needed to be built so that players are not put in a position to do bad things.

“If you put the player in front of a choice where they can do good things or bad things, they will do bad things, go dark side – because people think it’s cool to be naughty, they won’t be caught,” he explained.

Of course, there’s now speculation that the game’s cop-killing feature will likely spark an outrage from the press and government officials. Similar game features like the “No Russian” level in 2009′s Modern Warfare 2, the chase scene on the London Underground in the upcoming game Modern Warfare 3, and the Taliban multiplayer option in last year’s Medal of Honor have caused enough controversy to force Activision and EA to alter the games and/or issue defending statements. Controversial situations are seemingly great for advertisement.

However on Monday EA issued a response to the police shooting objective, although it’s not one you’d expect. “I don’t think you understand the gravity of the situation. For God’s sake, there is a nuke in Paris! Millions of lives are at stake!!”

Battlefield 3 PS3 visuals, are they good enough?

    June 19th, 2011

The first PS3 footage of Battlefield 3 was unveiled earlier this week. Some people were satisfied while others were left disappointed. In my opinion, PS3 gamers should be glad with how the game looks.

When I first watched the YouTube video in HD, I did not notice the differences between the PC and PS3 versions. To me, both of the games looked awesome no matter what version was shown. It wasn’t until a saw a comparison video of Battlefield 3 on both the PC and PS3 did I notice some slight differences.

They’re not major, but I shouldn’t think PS3 gamers should be too picky. There’s a lot more detail and lighting effects shown on the PC version of the game. Not to mention the buildings in the background look slightly more realistic than on the PS3 version. But in all honesty, you have to be nit-picking to actually notice the differences – especially comparing the footage on Youtube. It’s not like comparing the PS2 version of WWE All Stars to the PS3 version; those differences are instantly noticeable. Disappointed PS3 gamers should also not forget that the console is based on 2006 technology.

Although the PS3 is still able to produce mind blowing visuals, it simply cannot match the raw power that a high end PC made in 2011 can produce. I’m sure EA used a very powerful PC on maximum settings to showcase gameplay of Battlefield 3 anyway. To me, both versions of Battlefield 3 look awesome no matter if it’s on the PC or PS3. I’m sure when Xbox 360 footage is released, it too will be similar to that of the PS3 version. As a console gamer, I’m satisfied with the visuals that both the PS3 and Xbox 360 currently produce. I have not bothered to upgrade my PC since 2003!

I admit I’m just too lazy to send my PC to a professional all the time just so it can keep with playing the latest games. At least with consoles once you buy it, there’s no need to upgrade it all the time. I may miss out on impressive visuals that a high end PC offers, but I save a bit of money as a console gamer since there’s no need to purchase upgrades. Anyway, PS3 gamers should not compare the PS3 to a 2011 PC. Sure Battlefield 3 looks better on PC but it’s not a fair comparison to make in the first place. PS3 gamers should be glad the game looks the way it does. The worst that could happen is if it had PS2-like visuals! I’m a PS3 gamer and I think the graphics in Battlefield 3 still looks awesome. What’s your opinion on the PS3 graphics of Battlefield 3?

Battlefield 3 to be revealed at GDC ’11

    January 7th, 2011

Battlefield 3 tech talks will be held at the Game Developers Conference in 2011.  The GDC organizers have recently detailed a list of sessions for the conference and Battlefield 3 makes the list in multiple locations.  Making GDC ’11 Battlefield 3′s coming out party.   The “SPU-based Deferred Shading in Battlefield 3 for PlayStation 3″, “Lighting You Up in Battlefield 3″ and “The Failure Workshop” are among the listed discussions that will take place at the conference.  Hopefully we get some information for the fans before the conference but GDC is not that far into the horizon.

The 2011 Game Developers Conference will be held at the Moscone Center in San Francisco from February 28th to March 4th.  In the meantime we’ll just keep using this picture that may or may not be the first glimpse of Battlefield 3 to mark our Battlefield 3 posts.

    UPDATE:

Multiple talks on the innovative tech around DICE’s Battlefield 3 are also planned, including Christina Coffin talking on ‘SPU-based Deferred Shading in Battlefield 3 for Playstation 3′. The talk “presents a detailed programmer oriented overview of our SPU based shading system implemented in DICE’s Frostbite 2 engine and how it enables more visually rich environments in Battlefield 3 and better performance over traditional GPU-only based renderers.”

In addition, Kenny Magnusson presents ‘Lighting You Up in Battlefield 3′, with the visual arts talk showcasing ” a detailed overview of the new lighting system implemented in DICE’s Frostbite 2 engine and how it enables us to stretch the boundaries of lighting in Battlefield 3… avoiding costly and static prebaked lighting without compromising quality.”

There are also rumors that a gameplay video will be included.

EA is currently in a battle with Activision, a 400 million dollar battle. So what does the company do? It gives away free games. Is this a publicity stunt to help their current public relations? Or is it simply because their game sales are hurting and they’re looking for new venues to advertise in.

EA is currently in a battle with Activision, a 400 million dollar battle. So what does the company do? It gives away free games. Is this a publicity stunt to help their current public relations? Or is it simply because their game sales are hurting and they’re looking for new venues to advertise in.

The corporate warfare between Activision Blizzard and Electronic Arts is getting hotter than a hand grenade.

Activision on Tuesday pulled EA into a lawsuit it had filed in April against two prominent game developers that Activision had fired in March. The developers, Jason West and Vincent Zampella, had created Activision’s blockbuster Call of Duty franchise as heads of Infinity Ward, a studio Activision bought in 2003.

In the amended lawsuit, Activision names EA as a defendant, accusing the Redwood City, Calif., publisher of hatching a secret plot to “destabilize, disrupt and … destroy Infinity Ward.” The lawsuit accused EA of working through talent management firm Creative Artists Agency to “hijack” West and Zampella from Infinity Ward, based in Encino.

EA spokesman, Jeff Brown, in an email sent Tuesday night, said, “This is a PR play filled with pettiness and deliberate misdirection. Activision wants to hide the fact that they have no credible response to the claim of two artists who were fired and now just want to get paid for their work.”

Activision sued West and Zampella for breach of contract a month after it fired them. The two later formed Respawn Entertainment and began work on a game that Electronic Arts agreed to publish. They also filed a lawsuit against Activision, alleging that their former employer had improperly withheld from them millions of dollars in royalty payments from their last game, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

Regardless of the outcome, the consumers win. Gamers all across America are signing up to get their copies of the EA title “Medal of Honor” (see: Battlefield 3 Beta)

So basically what they are doing is giving away the crappy selling Medal of Honor to increase their public relations. This is good news for any BF3 fan who wants to get in on the Battlefield 3 Beta.

Battlefield 3 Sticks to its Roots

    November 22nd, 2010

The development of Battlefield 3 was revealed only shortly before E3 in June of this year. It has been almost half a decade since we last saw a title from the series without the Frostbite engine, and many fans have been clamoring for a return. The question is: will Battlefield 3 stick to its roots, or become just another Bad Company title?

EA Europe’s VP Patrick Soderlund has gone on record saying Battlefield 3 is just around the corner and is looking like a great addition to the series. During an interview with Eurogamer, Soderlund exclaimed the following after being asked about the state of the game’s development:

“It’s going well. I’m very happy with what we have and I’m really excited about showing it to the world because we have something that is going to be very, very cool.”

    He later followed-up with:

“Battlefield 3 will be seen as a true sequel to Battlefield 2.”

With revolutionary vehicles, tons of unlocks, and huge battle maps, the original Battlefield titles remained some of the most popular PC games for a handful of years after being introduced. The Bad Company spin-off series has been successful, but has been a significant gameplay departure from the originals. Hopefully we’ll be seeing another thrilling warfare title in the Battlefield series on the PS3 before the end of 2011.

    Battlefield 3 Screenshots Leak?

    December 18th, 2009 bf3leak

There are screenshots circulating the Internet that claim to be screenshots of the upcoming game Battlefield 3. These low quality images are supposedly taken with a phone off a PC monitor. While we are sceptical these images sure look promising. The images show multiple angles of a dog fight, a tank in a urban setting (inner city maps?), a soldier with some kind of high-tech head gear the and inside of a pilots cockpit. What to you think? Real or not? If so do they look good? Post your comments below.
