It’s the greatest stunt ever in ‘Battlefield 3? redone in real life, somewhat

This is definitely one of those Battlefield 3 clips that will have you second-guessing what it is real and what is not.

First off, this is required viewing for those who aren’t familiar. It’s a dude ejecting from the cockpit of his jet in Battlefield 3, then shooting down an enemy fighter with a bazooka while mid-air, and finally landing right back where he started, all accompanied by the sweet sounds of the A-Team theme…

Well, time to see it re-created in real life. Not 100%, but close enough…

So the cockpit shots are fake, that much is apparent. In fact, they somewhat feel more real in the game, for whatever reason. Same goes for him being airborne sans aircraft, to blow up another, and returning to his seat. Obviously. But that really is someone in the air, way up in the air, legs and hands all flailing about. Crazy, huh?

Here’s some behind the scenes footage, which you always see with many YouTube clips, but this is the only instance in which I think it’s actually worth investigating (though you may want to fast forward to the 3:28 mark if you’re strapped for time)…

Battlefield 3 is set to get even bigger this December, with the release of the Back to Karkand expansion pack. The downloadable bundle features four classic maps from Battlefield 2, each lovingly restored and enhanced to BF3 standards. Players will also get their hands on three new vehicles and 10 extra weapons. Watch the trailer to see this brand-spanking new content in action!

The new (or is that old?) maps are titled Strike at Karkand, Sharqi Peninsula, Gulf of Oman, and Wake Island.

The DLC pack will be available to purchase in December… or if you happened to be one of the millions of fans to pre-order Battlefield 3, you get this content for free. Aww yeah.

Like with any first person shooters you are abound to run into a hacker from time to time. Over the years game developers did well to help combat that pesky problem. The trick is to keep as many game variables on the sever side so they cannot be edited (such as amount of ammo, health, rank, speed… etc…etc..) Looks like Battlefield 3 players are in for one hell of a storm as a recently uncovered video shows an incoming doomsday.

Things we have noticed in the video:

1. The hacker places a C4 explosive anywhere on the map and while detonating instantly kills the entire opposite team. This is a huge hole that will bring server admins to their knees. You can win a match with one click.
2. Shoot anywhere with any gun, even through walls, always hit a target. We don’t even know how it’s done.

During extra research we found the following comments from the coders:

That teleport shit is easy its just a debug function built into the game.

Teleport? What the hell? Could Battlefield 3 be this badly written?

Look at the screen shot below, over 200 kills… 0 deaths. The guy must be good.

NIKLAS ÅSTRAND’S DESIGN THOUGHTS: One of our largest and most vehicle-friendly map, Operation Firestorm is the classic Battlefield gameplay taken to the extremes. Size-wise, and with some puzzle skills, you could actually place three Atacama Deserts — one of the largest maps from Battlefield: Bad Company 2 — within the playable area of Operation Firestorm. This is a wide-open desert map where the burning oil fields in one direction are contrasted by clear blue sky in the other direction. Construction sites dotting the area bring interesting possibilities for infantry to hide in elevated positions, spot vehicles, and take them down by mortar or RPG.

NIKLAS ÅSTRAND’S DESIGN THOUGHTS: Operation Métro is the map from E3 and the Open Beta, so some of you are familiar with it already. It is a map that perfectly illustrates that we want to take our players on a journey. Especially in Rush, you can see how Operation Métro is almost three maps within one: You start out in a lush park, then move into a bombed-out section of the subway tunnels, to finally emerge in a dense urban environment outside the Paris stock exchange. It’s a map that asks you to constantly adapt your class and load out for the diverse situations you will find yourself in.

NIKLAS ÅSTRAND’S DESIGN THOUGHTS: One of the inspirations for this map was a photo of a night time skyline of Tehran which now is basically the same vista that is available in the game. You start up on the hills above the city outskirts and eventually work your way into town. This atmospheric night-time map, where you can see rockets lighting up the sky, has a balanced mix between vehicle and infantry focus. It plays length-wise and starts semi-open with plenty of room for vehicles, but ends on a much more urban and tight note with less focus on vehicles and more on infantry.

DAMAVAND PEAK

NIKLAS ÅSTRAND’S DESIGN THOUGHTS: Damavand Peak, internally known as Base Jump, is built on the idea that we want players to be able to base jump, and features our most extreme height differences ever in a Battlefield map. Attackers in Rush and Squad Rush will start high up on a mountain ridge above a mining facility. The only way down into the valley is to somehow make the 500 meter descent. The further the attackers progress in the map, the more vehicle warfare will be present. There is also a large tunnel section dug into the mountain side at the bottom of the map, and the view when you look up at the starting location is spectacular.
