In the game, the single-player storyline is revealed through a series of flashbacks as Marine Staff Sergeant Henry Blackburn races to prevent an attack on New York City by a deadly force known as the PLR. As Blackburn recalls key events leading up to the attack, players take control of several characters in heart-pounding missions across land, sea and air. One of these characters is Dmitri “Dima” Mayakovsky, a legendary and pragmatic GRU operator in the twilight of his Special Forces career. Known as a “cleaner”, Dima is the sort of person that does whatever it takes to get the job done.

On January 7 and 8, 2012 Battlefield 3 will host an event on the Xbox 360 and PS3 to finally settle the age-old rivalry between metal and hip hop. Join world-renowned stars Big Boi, Korn, Dave Mustaine of Megadeth, and Mickey Factz as they go head-to-head to settle it once and for all. For this special occasion, DICE and EA are calling on all Battlefield fans to pick a side, join a platoon with their musical compatriots and get into the fight.

All player-created metal or hip hop platoons must be created before January 31, 2012 and named so that DICE team members can easily find them to crown the champions.

Activision argues that the person behind ModernWarfare3.com “has no right or legitimate interest in the Domain Name,” a violation of the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy, and wants the site under its own control. Activision has provided the panel with a two-page list of Modern Warfare’s accomplishments as evidence of its right to the domain, or perhaps because it wants to see its “Best Shooter” award from CNN.com in writing. Activision claims the site contains copyrighted material, including the style of its Modern Warfare 3 header, and that the owner “supports the game Battlefield,” quoting that it “urges visitors to ‘grow up and forgettabout Modern Warfare 3 (because it looks just like Modern Warfare 2) and buy Battlefield 3 instead.’”

ModernWarfare3.com was purchased on March 26, 2009, almost two years before Modern Warfare 3 was officially announced, and until recently the website redirected users to Battlefield3.com. Currently its front page reads, “Warning: this website is under seige,” with the above clip from Monty Python’s Life of Brian re-dubbed to bash Modern Warfare 3.

Not everyone knows the exact URL of the website they’re looking for, nor does everyone go right to a search engine when they don’t know something. Someone looking for information on the next Call of Duty game, Modern Warfare 3, might simply try typing in ModernWarfare3.com to see where it takes them. As it turns out, Activision doesn’t own the domain, and visiting the site redirects you to the official website of MW3′s biggest competitor, Battlefield 3.

ModernWarfare3.com used to be home to a site that masqueraded as the official website for the game, except it contained negative descriptions of it. A partially broken Google cache version shows it hosted a YouTube video slamming MW3 for looking just like Modern Warfare 2, as well as the following description:

“Modern Warfare is crap. On November 8, 2011, the most over-hyped first-person action series of all-time returns with the copy and paste sequel to the lackluster Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Check out the E3 2011 gameplay demo featuring the Black Tuesday level for a look at the epic fail of the campaign. Pre-Order Call of Duty MW3 Today for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC to secure exclusive bonuses only available online for Modern Warfare 3 fanboys who don’t know that Battlefield 3 is the better game.”

Text at the bottom of the page makes it clear the website is a parody of the official one. It states, “The website ModernWarfare3.com is not associated, affiliated, endorsed or sponsored by the creators or publishers of the game (we like them a lot though.) Call of Duty and Modern Warfare are registered trademarks of Activision Publishing, Inc. All images are the property of their respective owners are creators.”

It also had pages dedicated to the Call of Duty Elite beta and one describing MW3 as, among things, a “copy and paste experience that looks exactly like Modern Warfare 2.”

The real Modern Warfare 3 website resides at CallofDuty.com/MW3. Other Modern Warfare 3 domains, such as CallofDutyModernWarfare3.com, are owned by domain squatters that host nothing but advertisements in an attempt to make money off of those who unintentionally visit it instead of the real deal.

A WHOIS search shows that ModernWarfare3.com was first registered on March 26, 2009, and will remain active until at least the same date in 2013. Owned by someone in Arizona, it was last updated yesterday, on July 10, 2011; presumably that’s when it began redirecting to Battlefield 3′s site. As far as we can tell, the domain isn’t owned by EA and it had nothing to do with any of this. We’ve contacted EA to be sure.

Activision won’t be pleased, particularly given the shots that have been taken back and forth between both it and EA as the two gear up to compete with their respective titles this fall. Battlefield 3 comes out on October 25, followed by Modern Warfare 3 on November 8.

Another game EA published this year, Bulletstorm, was promoted by taking aim at Call of Duty. A short parody game, Duty Calls, was released that attempted to highlight how allegedly boring Call of Duty is in comparison with the over-the-top Epic Games/People Can Fly shooter.

1UP.COM has contacted Activision, which owns the Modern Warfare trademark, to see if it will attempt to acquire the domain or force the owner to change the redirect. They have yet to receive a response and will update if and when Activision comments on the situation.

EnterBF3 has the most devious system set up there is, with their so called “contest”. The reality is that users are sacrificing their personal info over and over to MULTIPLE companies in order to get 75 dollars in cash while Neged smiles all the way to the bank. He is basically bribing them to hand over personal information. Google “EnterBF3 scam” and you will find threads on his very own site where users complain and call him a scammer. (I am sure by the time this article reaches many of you, Mr. Neged will have that all cleaned up)

As far as other Battlefield sites attacking us, they’re are just puppies… such as battlefield3online.com – With their hopes of 5 min of fame on Reddit they blatantly attack us without any merit. I’ve seen sites like those come and go, so I will not even waste my time on them.

Users should read what they’re getting into rather then later attack us without any merit.

This site is like any other business, it needs an income in order to sustain its self. We truly believe we bring value to the scene, pretty much all of our articles are unique and we worked countless hours to help YOU spread the news about Battlefield 3. So on behalf of BF3Nation we would like to give you a big wag of the finger, for basically shitting on your loyal fans.
