I've got this info off a website which I'm sure most people know:

"EA’s support wing has confirmed that you can expect Battlefield 3’s BETA to kick off in October this year."

This news was conveyed by them via a tweet:

    The Beta of #BF3 will be expected in October.

Battlefield 3 is slated to release in fall 2011 for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.
