I think a lot of people want to talk about Flanking, but it's not simply find a route on the side, then use it every time. Flanking is not finding one route, but learning to find the route, that in THAT particular game, is not being used, or lends itself to allow you to maneuver behind enemy lines or forces. You can't just say here is a route, use it. It won't work every time.
And what do you do after you successfully flank the enemy? Just run in and kill as many as possible before they take you down? You could. But maybe there are other options you should also consider. Like providing a mobile spawn for your team or going for a ninja arm/defuse. You have to be able to adapt to what fits the current match and teams appropriately each game.
The maps of BF3 don't make it easy either. (Hopefully the new maps coming out soon will have a better design.) I think so many people are willing to say "just flank" but don't consider what goes into it to make it fully successful.
What are your opinions on flanking, how do you make it work, do you tend to be a distraction behind enemy lines to allow team to push up on the front lines, or do you go for ninja arms, maybe you like to hide and provide a mobile spawn for your squad?
What helps shape your decisions?

I actually just did a video on this last week. It's not essential for the topic, but if what to hear more of my opinions on the topic, feel free to check it out.
