Well I am an AMD fan... You can get a 6core for 199 3.2 ghz that easily overclocks to 4.1
Memory... i would upgrade to DDR3 1600 ... Its not expensive at all.
The motherboard you are wanting to buy is over kill imo for that processor ....
The Video card is nice, but since we have no clue WHAT it will take to run BF3 yet I would wait on it. You can bet your ass many card makers will have a card out with BF3 included for free :)

I am currently building a 6core 12 GB system with a 560 card for under 800 dollars. I will post an article about it soon.

I'd get this memory but $25 off promo ends tonight: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231428&cm_re=ripjaws_ddr3_1600-_-20-231-428-_-Product

That motherboard is good, but you could use something a bit cheaper and still get all the ports you could need (eSATA, Firewire, USB 3.0)
MSI: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130574
Asus: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131703
Gigabyte: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128478

Gigabyte uses good components, as do Asus and MSI, so any of those choices should last.

The 5870 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150490&cm_re=5870-_-14-150-490-_-Product gets about the same frames in Bad Company 2 and a few other games and it's a lot cheaper, you'll be upgrading that when BF3 comes around anyway ;)

6950 vs 5870 Benchmarks: http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2010/12/16/ati-radeon-hd-6950-review/9

I'm holding off on a build until Battlefield 3 gains more momentum (such as a beta date) but my buddy has a Sandy Bridge system and it rips, so I toy with the idea of doing what you're planning on but I really wouldn't spend too much on graphics right now. Unless you're just going to sell it on eBay and upgrade when BF3 time comes. Good luck.

thanks, but i won't be upgrading my video card when BF3 comes. once i buy the computer that is all i can get, so if you could recommend a video card that will run it at full graphics and isn't too expensive that will be helpful. i won't buy the computer now, but i will in a couple of months. other than that thanks for the advice.

You can really build a budget high end PC if you have an old one to reuse parts such as CDROMS / Powers supply / case....

Asus mobo - 99 bucks
Phenom x6 - 199
8 Gig ram - 100 bucks

You are @ 400 dollars without the GPU .... But I am sure like most of you, you will wait till BF3 specs come out to buy it ... So right now its anyones guess.

Im reusing most of my old parts from my old PC to save some money :) I plan to buy a high end card as if you spend a little extra it will last a lot longer.

The 6950 can be flashed to run as if it were a 6970. Seems like the most bang for the buck if you want a card now.

I think i'll reuse my CD drive, but i'll have to buy a new power supply and case to provide better air flow so it doesn't overheat when i over clock it.

and to Ronnie_Dobbs:

i think i will just buy this video card- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130587&cm_re=Geforce_GTX_580-_-14-130-587-_-Product
it isn't cheap by any means, but with the tips given here i should be able to save enough money to buy it. also with this video card at least i know for sure it will run everything on full graphics.
