From the latest news come a few weapon confirmations. Albeit there are only three confirmed weapons, there have been tons and tons of talk and rumor going on about the weapons in BF3. Some claim they actually know the weapons list, and others stress that it’s a common weapons within the factions they believe are going to be in BF3.

With some dedicated research into each weapon, a list has been complied of the confirmed weapons so far (again, only three), and an expansive list of all possible rumored weapons that fit the time line.

Battlefield 3 Video is due out tomorrow !!

It’s been a long time coming, but the official unveiling of Battlefield 3 is just a day away. Game Informer’s announced that it’s their March cover story, which will give us our first look at the game’s single-player and multiplayer components. Tomorrow, however, EA will release the debut teaser trailer on the official Battlefield 3 website for all the world to see.

Game Informer’s teaser for the cover story boasts “deferred rendering, real-time radiosity, a new animation system borrowed from the EA Sports label, and an exponential leap in destructibility,” for the game’s Frostbite 2 engine. Battlefield 3 executive producer Patrick Bach calls it “the best piece of technology on the market when it comes to building games.”

As with every Game Informer cover story, expect special features and other pieces regarding the game to appear on their website shortly after the magazine is released.

Battlefield 3 to be revealed at GDC ’11

Battlefield 3 tech talks will be held at the Game Developers Conference in 2011. The GDC organizers have recently detailed a list of sessions for the conference and Battlefield 3 makes the list in multiple locations. Making GDC ’11 Battlefield 3′s coming out party. The “SPU-based Deferred Shading in Battlefield 3 for PlayStation 3″, “Lighting You Up in Battlefield 3″ and “The Failure Workshop” are among the listed discussions that will take place at the conference. Hopefully we get some information for the fans before the conference but GDC is not that far into the horizon.

The 2011 Game Developers Conference will be held at the Moscone Center in San Francisco from February 28th to March 4th. In the meantime we’ll just keep using this picture that may or may not be the first glimpse of Battlefield 3 to mark our Battlefield 3 posts.

UPDATE:

Multiple talks on the innovative tech around DICE’s Battlefield 3 are also planned, including Christina Coffin talking on ‘SPU-based Deferred Shading in Battlefield 3 for Playstation 3′. The talk “presents a detailed programmer oriented overview of our SPU based shading system implemented in DICE’s Frostbite 2 engine and how it enables more visually rich environments in Battlefield 3 and better performance over traditional GPU-only based renderers.”

In addition, Kenny Magnusson presents ‘Lighting You Up in Battlefield 3′, with the visual arts talk showcasing ” a detailed overview of the new lighting system implemented in DICE’s Frostbite 2 engine and how it enables us to stretch the boundaries of lighting in Battlefield 3… avoiding costly and static prebaked lighting without compromising quality.”

There are also rumors that a gameplay video will be included.

Battlefield 3 release date?

In an interview with EA’s CEO John Riccitello he stated that Treyarch is not well managed. Stating that EA will make major strides in the FPS market in the coming year, he stated that Crysis 2 and Bulletstorm were going to be the major hits as well as the lightly known Battlefield 3 (well, to everyone else.) Riccitello also said, “I think it’s far from proven that the gaming consumer views a product from Treyarch in the same category as a product from what was (Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 developer) Infinity Ward.”

With EA’s recent agreement with Infinity Ward, the two plus DICE are really expecting to dominate the FPS market. And Riccitello also made it clear that he Battlefield 3 is going to be the major hit of the year, specifically the last half of 2011. Right in time for the release of the new unannounced, but already highly anticipated Call of Duty game.

Riccitello wrote:

[...] and you’ll see a lot about Battlefield 3 next year, which I think is, at least from our perspective, designed to be the one that is the big leap forward; the one that is going to help a lot.

However, the question is, is EA rushing the developers to make the game? Just a few months ago they said that Battlefield 3′s developers were being given their space to make sure that the game would be awesome. Side note, the board of directors could have picked a CEO with an easier name to spell, but that’s not to say that John isn’t talented.

So it looks like the game is set for sometime around November/December of 2010 !!

The 2010 VGA’s (Video Game Awards) is set to air on December 11^th. Spike TV is running ads for it, one of them shows short 10 second teaser clip of a new game that will be revealed during the awards. There is no word yet as what game is, that’s the whole point… It’s a world wide premiere. But from watching the clip we can find many similarities to previous installments of Battlefield.

Judge for yourself:

Don’t get all hyped now. The Battlefield music was edited in by Planet Battlefield (@ gamespy). Is this just a cruel joke or did they stumble on to something? The music fits perfectly into the intro.

Keep in mind this is speculation and by no means any confirmation, so don’t get your hopes up yet. Some people have argued this might be Mass Effect 3 as well.

The gaming community has been blessed with the recent BF3 development news. So what do we know so far? It has been announced that the game will indeed be a multi-platform port. DICE studios emphasizes that the PC community will not be hurt by this, and that the game will deliver. Much anticipation and hype is building up towards this title. (Is this the next MW2?) Battlefield 2 introduced many key features never seen before in any other FPS. No doubt DICE will have to out-do themselves and up-the-anty with their third installment. In this article we will discuss possible new features and introduce a few of our own ideas, with the hope that DICE will actually incorporate them into the final product.

Jets, jets, jets.

The Battlefield series owes a big part of its popularity to big maps and JETS. It took finesse and skill to fly these things at high speeds, and be able to accurately kill your target without much “collateral damage”. Battlefield 2 had a variety of jets but all of the fractions lacked one model I think we would all like to see. Stealth bombers. Bare with me here. Imagine a dedicated bomber that is NOT visible on radar. It would lack the AIR to AIR strike ability, but in exchange would be a superb bomber. To balance the game out they would have to be slow flying and less maneuverable. Due to the stealthiness, air fighters would not be able to lock on to it with a missile. The only way to bring it down would be with an AIR to AIR machine gun. If this seems like a silly idea well then at least give us the mighty AC-130 gunship

Get to the choppa !!

Flying any kind of chopper in BF2 was pure art form. Some members were able to “squash” their enemies with the tip of their machine gun. Killing them without firing a single bullet. In this category BF3Nation staff has 2 requests. One of them is for DICE NOT TO NERF THE CHOPPER CONTROLLS !! It took some skill to fly these things and we would like for that to stay the same. If for any reason the choppers will have the same flying characteristic as helicopters in Battlefield Bad Company 2, well then I can guarantee you massive loss of fan base. In our opinion flying is a big part of what made BF2 popular, and ruining that experience would be sacrilegious. Second request is to bring in the big dogs, the flying workhorse, the big kahuna… We are talking about the Chinook helicopter. We need a vehicle transport platform to get the equipment faster to the Battlefield. If any of you played “Joint Operations – Typhoon Rising” (by Novalogic) then you know how much fun it was to load a tank and 2 Humvee’s into the Chinook and drop them off where the action is. And just imagine how much fun it would be to blast a fully loaded Chinook off the sky. (I’m already drooling over the multiple kill screen shot)

Seat switching.

Since we are discussing everything air its time to talk about the infamous seat switching. While it was fun to do, it ruined the team play experience. It encouraged skilled players to hawk the AIR machines from them self. If you were lucky enough to grab a seat as a gunner, you would most likely be red-lined out of it. Its pure and simple. Make it so seat switching is impossible. This way more members would allow a gunner to tag along with them. As far as jets go, we had a nifty little idea of adding ejection seats. While it would not add anything to the game play, it sure would look nice to watch that seat pop in the air right before your about to deliver the final death blow.

Ground Vehicles.

Battlefield 2 had a variety of land vehicles. Not much improvement can be made here. We noticed one thing that most (if not all) of the vehicles are close range. In real world war these days its all about the distance. How about including a very popular MRLS m270 long range rocket launcher? Sounds over powering? If doesn’t have to be. It could only work with conjunction of an “military target painter”. A ground troop would have to place a device (or target with a laser) an enemy object and relay the information to the MRLS m270 driver. It would only encourage team play and bring in something new to the battlefield.

The big wide open sea.

Plenty of battles in the world take place on the sea. Its time to incorporate that into the new battlefield. Steerable gun ships that sit a few gun-manned players would be a start. Add that to an island filled map and you’ve got yourself a good game. We are not talking about having steerable air-craft carriers. Small time support vessels would do. They could provide great sea-to-land support and sea-to-sea battles.

Some random additions that could be fun.

Wind !! Add wind to the game. Have the parachute flyers be dependent on the wind direction. Its not fair to have an accurate pinpoint drop every time you exit an aircraft. With wind the drops would have to be planned and executed correctly. Wind would also apply to snipers. No longer would it be easy to snipe someone from a long distance if there was wind involved. Lets face it, snipers are a despised bunch and we should not make their life easy.

Karma/Reputation system.

Besides the points, medals & ranks there should be a honor/reputation system implemented. The reputation should be visible to all players on the map. The rep system would indicate if the individual is a team player or not. Lets say you are a notorious red-liner or a TK’er… Other players would be able to +/- your reputation for everyone else to see. The scoring system could be automatic if DICE implemented a proper algorithm to track such things. Yes there could be drawbacks of a system like this but we believe that it could work. Everyone should know who they are dealing with on the battlefield. If you are a douche that should be clearly visible to all your team members.

In conclusion.

Fresh from its work on the cartoon-style, free to play, first person shooter, ‘Battlefield Heroes,’ EA’s DICE studio is straight back into the thick of it working hard on development of a new Battlefield spin-off that will also adopt the free to play model.

The most interesting thing about ‘Battlefield Play4Free,’ however, is that it will be a fully-fledged, first person shooter that boasts realistic graphics and a modern day storyline that follows Russian and U.S. forces warring over high-tech weaponry and equipment. EA says that the new game is “serious, realistic, violent and gritty,” the exact opposite of the “light-hearted, arcade-like” gameplay of Battlefield Heroes.

EA also claims that ‘Battlefield Play4Free’ will feature the best of the Battlefield series, including: hosting for up to 32 players, the same weapons, equipment, factions and classes that we know and love, and even some of the maps from classic Battlefield games, such as Strike At Karkand from ‘Battlefield 2.’

Anyone worried that the arrival of ‘Battlefield Play4Free’ will signal an end to ‘Battlefield Heroes,’ needn’t be. EA has assured the community that the cartoon shooter will continue to run as normal and both games are equally important to them. It’s going to be really interesting to see the quality of ‘Battlefield Play4Free’ compared to the upcoming full release of ‘Battlefield 3′ (yet to be given a release date.) EA has actually said the two bear some similarities.

“Like our connections with Battlefield Heroes, we are working on deep connections between Battlefield Play4Free and the upcoming Battlefield 3. If you plan to play Battlefield 3, we would advise you get into Battlefield Play4Free at the earliest opportunity!!”

Now that sounds very tempting, and our first impressions from the opening trailer (below) are also very good.

Battlefield 3 Sticks to its Roots

The development of Battlefield 3 was revealed only shortly before E3 in June of this year. It has been almost half a decade since we last saw a title from the series without the Frostbite engine, and many fans have been clamoring for a return. The question is: will Battlefield 3 stick to its roots, or become just another Bad Company title?

EA Europe’s VP Patrick Soderlund has gone on record saying Battlefield 3 is just around the corner and is looking like a great addition to the series. During an interview with Eurogamer, Soderlund exclaimed the following after being asked about the state of the game’s development:

“It’s going well. I’m very happy with what we have and I’m really excited about showing it to the world because we have something that is going to be very, very cool.”

He later followed-up with:

“Battlefield 3 will be seen as a true sequel to Battlefield 2.”

With revolutionary vehicles, tons of unlocks, and huge battle maps, the original Battlefield titles remained some of the most popular PC games for a handful of years after being introduced. The Bad Company spin-off series has been successful, but has been a significant gameplay departure from the originals. Hopefully we’ll be seeing another thrilling warfare title in the Battlefield series on the PS3 before the end of 2011.

Should BF3 allow the infamous bunny hopping?

What is your take on bunny hopping? I don’t mind it. Yes it is unrealistic but it also adds FUN into the game. Video games should be fun, no?
