Jets, jets, jets.

The Battlefield series owes a big part of its popularity to big maps and JETS. It took finesse and skill to fly these things at high speeds, and be able to accurately kill your target without much “collateral damage”. Battlefield 2 had a variety of jets but all of the fractions lacked one model I think we would all like to see. Stealth bombers. Bare with me here. Imagine a dedicated bomber that is NOT visible on radar. It would lack the AIR to AIR strike ability, but in exchange would be a superb bomber. To balance the game out they would have to be slow flying and less maneuverable. Due to the stealthiness, air fighters would not be able to lock on to it with a missile. The only way to bring it down would be with an AIR to AIR machine gun. If this seems like a silly idea well then at least give us the mighty AC-130 gunship

Get to the choppa !!

Flying any kind of chopper in BF2 was pure art form. Some members were able to “squash” their enemies with the tip of their machine gun. Killing them without firing a single bullet. In this category BF3Nation staff has 2 requests. One of them is for DICE NOT TO NERF THE CHOPPER CONTROLLS !! It took some skill to fly these things and we would like for that to stay the same. If for any reason the choppers will have the same flying characteristic as helicopters in Battlefield Bad Company 2, well then I can guarantee you massive loss of fan base. In our opinion flying is a big part of what made BF2 popular, and ruining that experience would be sacrilegious. Second request is to bring in the big dogs, the flying workhorse, the big kahuna… We are talking about the Chinook helicopter. We need a vehicle transport platform to get the equipment faster to the Battlefield. If any of you played “Joint Operations – Typhoon Rising” (by Novalogic) then you know how much fun it was to load a tank and 2 Humvee’s into the Chinook and drop them off where the action is. And just imagine how much fun it would be to blast a fully loaded Chinook off the sky. (I’m already drooling over the multiple kill screen shot)

Seat switching.

Since we are discussing everything air its time to talk about the infamous seat switching. While it was fun to do, it ruined the team play experience. It encouraged skilled players to hawk the AIR machines from them self. If you were lucky enough to grab a seat as a gunner, you would most likely be red-lined out of it. Its pure and simple. Make it so seat switching is impossible. This way more members would allow a gunner to tag along with them. As far as jets go, we had a nifty little idea of adding ejection seats. While it would not add anything to the game play, it sure would look nice to watch that seat pop in the air right before your about to deliver the final death blow.

Ground Vehicles.

Battlefield 2 had a variety of land vehicles. Not much improvement can be made here. We noticed one thing that most (if not all) of the vehicles are close range. In real world war these days its all about the distance. How about including a very popular MRLS m270 long range rocket launcher? Sounds over powering? If doesn’t have to be. It could only work with conjunction of an “military target painter”. A ground troop would have to place a device (or target with a laser) an enemy object and relay the information to the MRLS m270 driver. It would only encourage team play and bring in something new to the battlefield.

The big wide open sea.

Plenty of battles in the world take place on the sea. Its time to incorporate that into the new battlefield. Steerable gun ships that sit a few gun-manned players would be a start. Add that to an island filled map and you’ve got yourself a good game. We are not talking about having steerable air-craft carriers. Small time support vessels would do. They could provide great sea-to-land support and sea-to-sea battles.

Some random additions that could be fun.

Wind !! Add wind to the game. Have the parachute flyers be dependent on the wind direction. Its not fair to have an accurate pinpoint drop every time you exit an aircraft. With wind the drops would have to be planned and executed correctly. Wind would also apply to snipers. No longer would it be easy to snipe someone from a long distance if there was wind involved. Lets face it, snipers are a despised bunch and we should not make their life easy.

Karma/Reputation system.

Besides the points, medals & ranks there should be a honor/reputation system implemented. The reputation should be visible to all players on the map. The rep system would indicate if the individual is a team player or not. Lets say you are a notorious red-liner or a TK’er… Other players would be able to +/- your reputation for everyone else to see. The scoring system could be automatic if DICE implemented a proper algorithm to track such things. Yes there could be drawbacks of a system like this but we believe that it could work. Everyone should know who they are dealing with on the battlefield. If you are a douche that should be clearly visible to all your team members.

Could this mean the end of the PC franchise? I mean we all know how well “PC to console” ports go, right? WRONG !!!!!!!!!!! They most definitely cripple the end experience for PC gamers. We all know that the economy is tough and companies are looking to save money. But in all honesty this might just be the biggest mistake in PC gaming history. We all remember what a shocker it was to play Battlefield 1942, and how innovative and creative Battlefield 2 turned out to be. For gods sake when Battlefield 2 came out there were maybe 10 desktops in the world that could run that game on high settings with all the features and effects they introduced.

Should we lie to our-self thinking that they will keep the console version different from PC version? How many game developers are doing this in these tough times? Simple answer, none.

Possible differences between PC vs Console versions will undoubtedly be:

1. Number of players per map.
2. Thats pretty much it.

This makes you wonder now if Gordon Van Dyke really left the company to “be closer with his family”, or because he knew that his beloved franchise was going to become a port. I still hold a glimpse of hope that Battlefield 3 PC version will truly be a worthy predecessor to BF2. For some reason I still believe DICE’s CEO when he said “Battlefield 3 will blow everyone away”. As a hardcore Battlefield gamer I can see many gamers who loved the BF2 series opt for the console version. I mean why spend 800.oo dollars upgrading your gaming rig, when I can just pick up a xBox 360 version for 59.99 ?? Most definitely that will be the case for every media-core Battlefield fan. This scenario will only yield in less PC players, less servers, less fun. This is a true blow to the PC gaming industry, as in the recent years its getting no love from developers.

You think that would be the end of it. Well its not. It seems the EnterBF3 admin “neged” is infatuated with the Ctrl+C & Ctrl+V functions and loves to find content for his site this way. The next chapter in this saga tells the story of Neged snatching our Survey/Contest idea. Our dedicated staff runs a few gaming sites, one of them being ModernWarfare2Forums.net. The forum is pretty successful and is ran by your entire BF3Nation.com crew of editors. Neged is a frequent visitor of our Modern Warfare 2 site and it was to no surprise to us when 2 days after ModernWarfare2Forums.net opened a Survey/Contest section EnterBF3 had a survey page of their own. Another slap in the face is that he even used the same Affiliate Network for CPA offers located at CPALead.com. The only difference between our and his survey page is that he runs a contest while users on our site earn and keep every point they make for which they can cash in for goodies. Scammer practices and LIES LIES LIES

Breaking all the Internet Marketing rules the Admin of EnterBF3 encouraged his users to fill out the surveys untruthfully in order to gain many clicks and eventually money. Yes those surveys make him money. While that is not a bad thing as running sites costs money (everyone loves money ) it is wrong to lie on they survey page. Companies pay out millions of dollars for research and development and cheating them out of that money not only hurts them but other HONEST affiliate publishers who are trying to earn a buck. I have confronted Neged about this situation as his negligence could of gotten him banned off CPALead network for breaking their TOS (Terms of Service). His response was to delete every trace of proof that he encouraged users to lie + on top of everything ha has banned me off his site. That was not the only reason for the ban. Neged is trying to keep us hushed as we have discovered 2 critical flaws in his survey system which renders his contest useless as its easy to cheat.

Funny facts are that CPALead.com (the survey company) pays out anywhere from 0.19 cents to 10.00 dollars per survey filled. Its totally random but combining all the statistic together you can calculate an average which is 1 dollar for every survey completed. Now EnterBF3 grand prize is a desktop computer with some pretty good specifications. The problem is the contest requires 12,000 entries in order for a winner to be announced. Now If my math is correct that means Neged expects 12,000 surveys to be filled which if the calculation below is correct:

12000 Entries = 12000 Surveys x 1.00 Per Survey = $ 12,000.00 Usd Dollars.

Now no doubt that computer is a pretty good one, its just not 12,000.00 dollars good. This only shows how greedy Neged truly is. But my point that Im trying to get to is that in the end it does not matter. The site is using very poor scripts to keep the honest contestants safe from fraudulent clicks. Our staff editor Jeremy has decided to enter the contest to show the security flaws in their system. When we confronted Neged about this issue we were both banned (again) and any proof of us posting on his site was removed. The only thing showing the truth is the screen shot we took while toying with his out-dated site. Please look at screenshot below and notice how jc33777@gmail.com (aka Jeremy) has magically won all the top spots in the contest (and even won the PC). This was done in a matter of minutes using a simple trick and a FireFox Macro.

In fact the system is so poorly designed that we are compelled to tell you that its as easy as hitting your BACK button (after filling out just 1 survey) and entering your email over and over again. This can be automated by creating a simple Marco (Google it if you don’t know what a Macro is) – Is that the only way to cheat it? No. The other way is a tad more complicated but having people with web security backgrounds on our staff makes it a snap. So in conclusion DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME on their contest as you will never win. Ever !! The tracking system that EnterBF3 has is very poor and that can be verified just by browsing their forums and finding tons of angry users asking about their points.

I am sure this is not the end of this story. My only wish is that Neged will Copy & Paste this story onto his site, also.

There are screenshots circulating the Internet that claim to be screenshots of the upcoming game Battlefield 3. These low quality images are supposedly taken with a phone off a PC monitor. While we are sceptical these images sure look promising. The images show multiple angles of a dog fight, a tank in a urban setting (inner city maps?), a soldier with some kind of high-tech head gear the and inside of a pilots cockpit. What to you think? Battlefield fans rejoice !! We can all rest happily knowing that Battlefield 3 is confirmed and being worked on as we speak. One of DICE employees who goes by the name Oscar Carlen posted his resume on the web that included some interesting information.  To our happy surprise it states that he has been working on the much anticipated game Battlefield 3. The leaked story must of truly been accidental as after the press got a hold of the news Oscar Carlen quickly removed the Battlefield 3 information from his resume. Could this be a mistake? We don’t think so. Why in the world would a game developer put a non existing game on his resume? And the fact that the information was quickly removed only thickens the plot.

Battlefield Bad Company 2 Beta – PS3 Exclusive. Sorry xBox owners.

Recent news announced by EA brings joy to Playstation 3 owners.  Battlefield Bad Company 2 will have an exclusive beta open only to PS3 gamers. Looks like xBox 360 fans will have to wait for the game to come out and trust dedicated PS3 players to find all mistakes made in the game. I have my faith in the PS3 community.

Here is the truth about the unfinished BF 1943 game. Could this be why its being delayed for PC?

Battlefield 1943 blew the doors off the XBLA Marketplace, selling a mammoth 600,000 copies in just three days to become the fastest selling arcade game in the platform’s history. It’s a well-deserved success for a truly awesome game that finds me returning night after night for my fix.

Unfortunately, not all is well in the world of Battlefield as a few glaring problems are increasingly annoying the shit out of me. Worse, EA/DICE aren’t copping to any issues and are acting like too many other game companies by simply burying their head in the sand while they count your money.
So what needs fixing? Here goes…

Fix the Squad System

I play Battlefield 1943 every night with my brother as a two-man squad. At the end of nearly every round, our squad is disbanded and we find ourselves on opposite sides. We can only reform our squad if there happens to be an available slot on either side, which is seldom the case.

That means we have to exit the round, go back to the main menu, reform our squad and search for yet another game, only to repeat that process over and over and over.

It’s frustrating, ridiculous and it needs to be addressed.

This situation most likely occurs because the auto-balancing system is trumping the squad party, which is not the way it should work.

Fix the Squad System Part II

DICE made a huge error in making squads an option and not mandatory. Joining a squad is a benefit to every player as it gives you up to three more options on where to spawn after a death. Without a squad, you are stuck spawning on the carrier or a captured flag. When you’re in a squad, you can spawn next to any squad member, affording you access to current skirmishes and flag attacks that happen to be underway.

Battlefield 1943 should force players into a squad from the get-go. No option to go solo. The entire game is based upon squad play, yet for some reason DICE lets people go lone-wolf, which is pretty stupid.

Obviously, players could solve this problem by joining a squad, but considering your average player is a complete moron, I’d rather not sit around waiting for the community to solve an issue that shouldn’t be an issue. I back my “moron” claim because more often than not, when I click Join an Open Squad….I don’t actually join an active squad because THERE ARE NO SQUADS TO JOIN. That means there are 11 people on my team acting like a solo-tard.

Fix the Matchmaking

Not as prevalent as the relentless Squad Disbanding bug but no less annoying is Battlefield 1943’s weak matchmaking service that find me entering a round with only a handful of players on the server. Playing 4 versus 4 is not uncommon, nor is it any fun.

Battlefield 1943 is meant to be played 12 versus 12. Period. 10 versus 10 should be the threshold before the server is restarted and repopulated. Why games that are populated with only 8 total people are allowed to exist is beyond me. It makes for a thoroughly boring experience, forcing the player to bail on the round and return to the main menu, hoping the next round will actually be populated with players.

This wouldn’t be so bad if nearly empty games were injected with players to fill the server, but that rarely happens, indicating there is a bug in DICE’s system that needs to be addressed.

Fix the Leaderboards

More often than not, the leaderboard is screwed up. Sometimes it works, usually it doesn’t. This has to be the easiest fix in the world but EA/DICE apparently couldn’t care less.

The problem comes when trying to find your ranking on the Global list. If the leaderboard is in a bad mood, it will only display the top 1,000 players. If it’s working, which is rare, you’ll find your position within the full list.

How hard is it to fix this crap? Why is this problem persisting a month after release? To make matters worse, if you go to Battlefield1943.com and check you stats, you’ll find the same bullshit: sometimes their leaderboard works, more often than not it doesn’t. Stats are messed up, it says I’ve killed 1400 people with a Jeep when it should actually be a tank, and so on.

This may be a crazy concept, but if you’re going to offer a service then at least make sure it functions. If it doesn’t function, then fix it. If you can’t fix it, then remove it.

Fix Squad Communication/Team Communication

Ohhh Dice, I do try to love you, I really do. But you make it so f’n hard sometimes. Just like Bad Company, Battlefield 1943 has a broken communication system. Sometimes your squad mates won’t be able to hear you speak into the mic or, if you’re not in a squad, you often won’t be able to communicate with people on your team.

If I find this same crap in Bad Company 2, I will announce a jihad.

In Closing

DICE made a great game, albeit one with a very troubling beginning that found the majority of players unable to even join a game because EA/DICE did not properly test their software before putting it up for sale. Fortunately, the problem was fixed within a few days. Unfortunately, that was the last we ever heard from DICE. Since then, they have made no comments on what they are or aren’t working on in terms of fixes.
