Thanks to the folks of at BF-Games.net, we have some Battlefield 3 details and scans of the German GameStar magazine. This news also comes after multiple DICE/EA employees have been tweeting about how tomorrow (the 23rd) will be a big day for Battlefield 3. These were supposed to be released tomorrow, but we’re not complaining. Here’s a few details from the article:?

As predicted the new GameInformer issue is out and folks have already provided scans of the article, which include plenty of great-looking screenshots. Please keep in mind that these Battlefield 3 Screenshots are not of the best quality as they are magazine scans/photos:

Aiming for Fall 2011 release
4 classes
Concept for BF3 has been in the works for years, waiting on proper tech to seamlessly come together
Frostbite 2.0 is the culmination of this tech, entirely re-written
Lighting sounds neat, one “probe” contains more lighting information than an entire BFBC2 level.
Level destruction is going to be “believable” but basically everything is destructible.
Character animations powered by ANT, what EA Sports uses.
AI characters and multiplayer characters have different animation sets
No more “gliding” animations that look off, animation realism is a focus
Captured their own war audios (bullets, tanks, helicopters, etc) at different distances to ensure realism
Better audio cues for certain actions, more easily able to listen for threats
Plan on better, more immediate post release content
More unlocks than Bad Company 2
Dice trying to find a good balance between customization of your character and not having “pink rabbit hat(s)”
Will have co-op
There will be a kill-cam but it can be turned off
BF3?s team is almost twice as big as the team for BFBC2
They want the pacing of the single player mode to be balanced, with highs and lows. Makes the comparison to a song vs a guitar solo.
Part of the single player mode takes place in Sulaymaniyah (Iraqi Kurdistan).
Will be M rated
PC version is lead version
No mod tools at release.

-Yes, there will be spotting.
-Dolphin Diving is out. Period.
-Vehicle/Infantry balance is a focus for me, it will be awesome this time.
-No plans for ziplines or grapple hooks no.
-Yes, prone is on all platforms.
-BF3 will be deeper than BF2. That said we’ve paid a lot of attention to keeping depth while pacing the learning curve.
-BF3 is the sequel to BF2. It’s not BC3.
-Friendly Fire will be an option, yes.
-No comment on commander.
-Yes, there is bullet drop. Doesn’t work the same as BC2 though, it’s a much deeper system.
-No, no tracer darts. That’s a bit too BC and not enough BF.
-No, I won’t confirm any vehicles from the teaser.
-One of the cities is Tehran… Yes, yes there will be sand.

BF3Nation editorial notes:

Are we the only one disappointed in the commander class being removed? We don’t mind having “dolphin divers” being removed as in the hands of a pro it was a menacing feature, but to remove the commander, well it’s just wrong. Having a skilled player watch over the whole team really made the game more interesting. Remember the times when you were on a hot killing streak, and your HP was almost at zero and you thought it’s all over… But wait… Whats that? A crate falling from the sky !! Thank you commander !!!

The second issue are the fears coming from the modding community. Currently it’s neither confirmed or denied, but from what it looks like (at least for now) that mod kits will NOT be included.

Hopefully things will change. We are only hoping that the release date won’t be pushed off and 2011 will be the year of Battlefield 3.

There are screenshots circulating the Internet that claim to be screenshots of the upcoming game Battlefield 3. These low quality images are supposedly taken with a phone off a PC monitor. While we are sceptical these images sure look promising. The images show multiple angles of a dog fight, a tank in a urban setting (inner city maps?), a soldier with some kind of high-tech head gear the and inside of a pilots cockpit. What to you think? Real or not? If so do they look good? Post your comments below.
